The Mini Museum of World Theatre in Shizuoka
— named THEATRON —
opened in Shizuoka Performing Arts Park, in April 2023.
Shizuoka Performing Arts Park is home to three theatres — the Open-air Theatre UDO, the Ellipse Theatre DAENDO and the BOX Theatre. Each one operates in line with the concept of Coexistence and Harmony with Nature, and they use theatre buildings drawing on influences from Ancient Greece, via Medieval Europe to the modern era. So, while Shizuoka Performing Arts Park has the character of a living theatre hub, the Mini Museum TEATRON introduces the histories of various theatres around the world in detail.
THEATRON originally in Greek means “place to see” or “theatre” Since ancient times, there has always been “theatre” with people in all times and places around the world, and it has been passed down to the present day. So please take a trip to visit such a rich variety of theatre at the new THEATRON.
(Besides, the KACHI KACHI YAMA rest space became MM THEATRON, the museum can also be used as a free rest area).

“MM THEATRON’s Special Day! “
“THEATRON’s Day! ” is a one-day event for visitors to enjoy the Mini Museum TEATRON and the Park from which you can view Mount Fuji. Park Tour, around the theaters within the park guided by SPAC actor/actress, will be held. Café THEATRON will also be specially opened, offering delicious sweets from the Nihondaira area and other parts of Shizuoka!

Park Tour
Visit the MM THEATRON and three other theaters within the park, guided by SPAC actor/actress! Within the park that covers an area as wide as 21 hectares, there are Open Air Theatre UDO and Ellipse Theatre DAENDO designed by world-famous architect ISOZAKI Arata, and BOX Theatre, a theater inside the rehearsal building. These theaters are, in a sense, “live theater museums,” filled with historically important essences of theater buildings. In the tour, the characteristics of each theater and the relationship with the history of theater architecture will be explained.
